2006 is coming to an end. And it's time to check out the top 10 films of the year.*
For starters
10. Krissh - My Review
9. Jaan-E-Man
8. Golmaal : Fun unlimited
7. Dhoom 2 - My Review
6. Pyaar ke side effects

5. GANGSTER

To see why Shiney Ahuja is being touted as the hottest newcomer in town, you gottacheck out Gangster. When I went in to see this film, I did not have much expectations apart froma certain MrHashmi to increase his kissing score by 1(or 2). A great story, a tight screenplay, mindblowing(although pliagiarized) music and awsome performances(by all three main characters) make Gangster a true Bollywood masala film.

Scene Pick : There are two.The one where Kangana gives in Daya(Shiney Ahuja) to the police and when Emraan declares in a press conference "I did this for two reasons - Love and War. Love for my country and war against organised crime". Priceless!

4. KHOSLA KA GHOSLA

This one comes straight from middle class Delhi and it brings with it a smell of a certain Mr Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Unpretentious, earthy and very very middle class(y).

Watch it for Boman Iranis second (and better)outing in a calendar year as a scheming punjabi land grabber. Watch it for Ranvir Shoreys one liners. Watch it for Vinay Pathaks smiles.Watch it for Navin Nischols snubs.(Aap chup hone ka kya lenge?)
Just go watch it!!!

Scene Pick : When Bapu(Navin Nischol) meets Khurana(Bomman Irani) for the first time, face to face.

3. RANG DE BASANTI

Rang De Basanti

A film which gave Aamir Khan a chance to get back at the previous NDA regime with a Narendra Modi lookalike and defence deals backdrop. A movie which had its flaws(Aamir Khan as Azad, assasinating defence minister with a revolver and a bike, the police lathi charge on protestors etc) but also gave the message it wished to do pretty clearly - "the youth of this country should get into politics to cleanse the system and all corrupt politicians should be assasinated."
Since Dil Chahta Hai, I have never seen a better first half.
Fact : Hrithik Roshan and Madhavan were offered the role of Karan which went to Siddharth eventually. And Shah Rukh Khan was offered Madhavans role.

Scene Pick : There are two. One where Sue speaks in Hindi, totally surprisingly DJ and the other where DJ breaks down in Sues arms(Sab kuch bikhar raha hai..woh sonia apni bachchi) after thelathi charge.

Lage Raho Munnbhai

I dont believe in Gandhi and I certainly dont believe in Gandhigiri. But what makes "Lage Raho" the top 2 movie of the year are the Munna-circuit combo. I dont think Vidya Balan had much to do in this movie except look pretty. And in between the shared screen space of Gandhi and Munnabhai, guess who took the cake circuit. Arshad Warsi is the real star of Lage Raho with his witty one liners and trying-to-locate-Bapu-where-there-was-none act.
Scene Pick : Right before the interval, the scene at the waterfront. Munna and circuit back to back. Munna apologises to circuit. This scene left me with tears. Check it out here
And the "Film of the Year" goes to

1. OMKAARA - My Review

Omkaara

Yes too many MCs and BCs, too dark, too incomprehensible but Vishal Bhardwaajs adaptation of Othello was raw, intense and immensely enjoyable. My pick for the "FILM OF THE YEAR".
Fact : Aamir Khan was offerred the role of Langda Tyagi. Couldnt take it up due to other commitments.
Scene Pick : The one where Omkaara looks into the eyes of Kathoru and says - Sarat ghodo par lagate hain, seron par nahi! Check it out here.
*I have not included Fanaa and Dor in the review as I have not seen those movies.
