Dear Farhan Akhtar(FA),

I am sure you must be very busy with the promotion of DON but I am also sure you appreciate honest feedback from a die hard fan of yours.

Before Don you made Dil Chahta Ha and Lakshya. DCH is a cult movie!!!

Have you read Indian Express editor Shekhar Guptas take on DCH? Here it is!

I am pretty sure that there is no one in the current generation who does not have DCH in his all time top 5  movie list. Commercially it was an above average hit. Lakshya again was an extremely inspiring movie. The scene where Capt Karan Shergill calls up his dad and the scene where he looks and points at the Pak occupied peak and tells roma - Tum hamesha kehti thi na ki mera koi Lakshya nahi, Ab hai! Very inspiring!!! Whoever I have spoken to has loved the film although it did not send the cash registers ringing.

And I think that broke your heart. A lot of critical acclaim but no box office success of the blockbuster kind. And I guess that's why you embarked on your recent released venture which I saw on thursday last and was thoroughly disappointed. Frankly speaking Shahrukh as a Don itself is laughable!!!

Okay the trademark FA style is there but is that all to it? The movie does not have a soul. Its like Dhoom. All style no content. Is it going to be like that in your movies going forward? Will you now start relying on hype of the Krrish and Fanaa kind?

The first scene is top of the line and slide begins thereafter.

Couldnt you have asked Kareena to work out a little before the shoot of Yeh mera dil?

Couldnt the film have been a little shorter? Action films are supposed to be short. Arent they? I was having a KANK kinda feeling. And a bit of matrix style fighting would have surely helped. King khan could have loaned you the camera. He got that specially for "Main hun na"

*BTW the skydiving scene was excellent.

Priyanka redeems herself after a disastrous Krrish she looks very hot but then what is she wearing in Khaike Pan? A rustic song like that requires the actress to be fully clothed. Dont you think? We dont need to see her cleavage in a Khaike paan banaras waala. As it is cleavage show is only for Karan Johar movies and not Farhan Akhtar films.

And if you have to show a kung fu style dhishum dhishum at the end why have the bad man as Boman Irani? Take someone as fit and lean or as gay as King Khan.

And Shahrukh - the way he walks and talks and Hams, it is quite evident that he is trying too hard. His allahabadi take off is the worst scene in the movie. And Farhan, Shahrukh as Don? What were you thinking? That itself is ROFL. And more OFL. And more.

I dont know what will be the end result of the movie. Current reports indicate that it is doing well(all tickets are booked everywhere). I am sure it will recover its money abroad for sure(courtesy Shahrukhs Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Gay fans). Maybe you will get what you so desired.

But your fans are disappointed. Highly disappointed.

I still have faith in you. I will still quote you among my favourite directors ie apart from Ashutosh Gowariker, Madhur Bhandarkar and Nagesh Kukunoor. And I will give you one more chance to redeem yourself. I will forget Don and will wait till 2008/2009 until your next film releases. Hopefully you will realize that some directors are supposed to break the convention by not making remakes, masala movies, mushy sob stories set in New York etc etc. Some directors coin a line like

It took him 24 years and 18000 feet to find himself.

And that is why people like me buy a rupee 150 ticket on a thursday night special preview to check out his latest flick.

Awaiting reply

Big Fan
